Yendi ‘pig conflict’: Two arrested

The Northern Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the bloody clash on Thursday, 9 November 2018, between Dagombas and Konkombas in Nakpachie near the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region.

The police picked up Ziblim Alhassan, the maize farmer who allegedly shot a pig and inflicted gunshot wounds on the pig farmer. The second suspect was also arrested at Yendi in possession of 44 live cartridges which the police believe were meant to be used to fuel the conflict.

One person was shot dead and two others sustained various degrees of injuries in the conflict.

Several houses were also torched.

The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko, said told Dinpa 91.3 news that both suspects have been arraigned and remanded in police custody.

According to him, there is a heavy security presence in the community and its environs.

Reinforcement teams have also been deployed from Tamale to strengthen the security on the ground.

He added that day and night security patrols will be organised in the area to maintain absolute peace and security.

The police further urged residents to remain calm, shun violence and report any misunderstanding to the police.
