The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Mahama Abukari has resolved to send a delegation to the troubled Chereponi District in the North East Region of the country to engage leaders of the Chokosi and Konkamba ethnic groups to broker peace after the two sides clashed, resulting in two deaths.
Twenty communities have been ravaged with over 40 houses torched while scores of locals have sustained various degrees of injury.
Several inhabitants, mostly children and women, have also fled the ravaged communities.
Speaking in an interview with Class91.3FM on Tuesday, 19 March 2019, the spokesperson for the Ya Na, Yakubu Musah, said: “As the Overlord of Dagbon, he has taken steps to intervene in the matter to make sure that there is permanent peace in the Saboba-Chereponi issue”.
Mr Musah indicated that the Ya Na met with the divisional and municipal police commanders in the area, as well as the military commander in Yendi on Tuesday, ahead of the trip by his delegation.
He said the Ya Na is hopeful that the groups will respond to his envoys and end the conflict since the troubled area falls under his jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, the joint military and police team patrolling the district has arrested eight suspects in connection with the violence.
The security apparatus has retrieved some six single-barreled guns and one locally-manufactured weapon.
