No foreign nationals in cashew purchase, Ghanaians only-Minister hints

”Beginning 2019, there is going to be law that will regulate who is supposed to purchase cashew in Ghana” these were the words of the deputy Bono regional Minister Hon. Stephen Siaka when he was responding to an appeal from the Queen mother of the Wenchi Traditional Council.

The Queen mother, Nana Atoa Sramangye Duah III was speaking to the Bono regional Minister ,her deputy and their entourage when they paid a courtesy call on the Chiefs and people of Wenchi as part of their 4days familiarization tour to the 12 constituencies in the region.

The queen mother appealed to the ministers to ensure the producer price of cashew goes up as it has fallen in the last few months.
Responding to the appeal ,Hon Stephen Siaka said Parliament is going to consider a bill that will lead to the formation of the Cashew Development Board.”On 28th May,2019 Parliament will resume sittings. There are a number of bills before us of which I believe the Cashew Development Board will be among them.”
”When the bill becomes law ,the board will determine who and who is supposed to purchase cashew in our country.”
”Only Ghanaians will be licensed to buy the cash crop. If any foreign national is seen engaging in the buying of cashew, the fellow will be considered as engaging in illegal activities.””Ghanaians who will be given the licence to buy cashew will be monitored to ensure they are treating the farmers fairly”, he added.
