“Sex for grade” Female students also harass lecturers sexually -UG Lecturer

Dr. Margaret Amoakohene, the Chairperson of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee of the University of Ghana (UG) has hinted that most female students of the institution also harass the male lecturers sexually.

This development comes on the back of the BBC’s ‘Sex for grades’ documentary which accused two senior lecturers of the University of Ghana of sexual impropriety.

Speaking to Akua Nyarko Abronoma, host of Dinpa anopa bosuo show on a Sunyani based Dinpa 91.3 FM, Dr. Margaret Amoakohene said just as some female students find it difficult to report such cases to her office, male lecturers who have encountered same problems have not made attempt to report.

She noted that, “there was a time a female student undressed herself at the office of a lecturer, locked the door and kept the keys in her pocket and demanded the lecturer does what pleases her “.

“The Lecturer has to shout and call his colleague whose office is very close to his, before the lady dressed up and open the door”, she added.

She urged all persons to provide evidence of sexual harassment by any lecturer or student.

“We are going to invite persons who have encountered these two lecturers or any others to come forward,” she said.

Prof Ransford Gyampo and Dr.Paul Butakor have been implicated in the sex for grades film by BBC Africa Eye

Meanwhile, the lecturers indicted at the University of Ghana have denied the allegations made against them, with Prof Gyampo threatening to sue the BBC for defamation.
